Several of my friends and I have hunted together in North Central New Mexico for about 10 years. We missed last year because of the Calf Canyon Fire which had recently decimated the area we hunt. But this year, after about 16 months of regrowth, we were really excited. Luckily, we picked up a...
Do you guys have any tips/tricks for minimizing acclimatization time at higher elevations particularly as you age. I live at 700ish and hunt at 9000+. I know I should plan to drink a lot more water. I am in good shape but it seems like the first few days are getting rougher.
One of my daughters located this in a Bozeman thrift store complete with a sweat band extending halfway down the brim. Not saying there's a hypocrite among us but apparently it was donated in a hopzone box.
@WildWill, @okie archer, and I would like to clarify that TomTerrific is not from SW Oklahoma as his bio suggests. That guy is clearly from the panhandle of Texas. Thanks for your time.
Have a friend who has a 300 win mag and says he is 3.7" high at 100 yards instead of the roughly 2" high he desires to be. Aside from resighting in which he should do, he asked if because it is roughly 1.7" higher than it should be if that 1.7" in transferrable to the ballistic chart at say 300...
For a single person on a backpack hunt, is a two person tent worth the extra weight to be able to have your gear inside? Either way, what are your recommendations for features in a backpacking tent (3 or four season, size, weight, etc). Thanks!
HTers,
My wife and I are preparing for a trip to Maine next week and wondered if anyone has any cant miss stops centered around sights, food, or booze.
Thanks in advance
Hey guys, I bought a house this week to flip and found some miscellaneous reloading supplies. Im fairly new to reloading and so please excuse my ignorance. I have a couple of questions you might be able to help with.
First, what are these speer half jackets for? They are shaped like cups...
Here is the situation:
You're on a back country hunt and find yourself wet, cold, and stranded in a blizzard in a two person tent. Who would you rather have?
Saw this earlier today. Not surprising for California but it seems likely hunting could be in danger at some point.

Hey guys, leaving for New Mexico in a couple weeks and one of the guys I am going with asked if the altitude would affect arrow flight significantly. I’ve seen both answers online and wondered if there is any anecdotal experience from the group. We camp at 9400 feet and generally hunt within a...
One down, two to go...my oldest daughter just got her first “career”job! She is now self sufficient. Graduated college in May debt free with a Bachelors degree and starts her first job in two weeks.
Anyone ever tried renting a spotting scope? I checked the search but only one post from 5 years ago. You can rent a Swaro for a couple hundred bucks. I may do this for this year. Or maybe a different angle, would any of you be interested in renting a spotting scope for your hunts in the future?
For those that are interested, Bass Pro and Cabelas have the SPOT Gen 3 and Trace on sale with a 50% product rebate and a 50% service rebate. Ive just ordered a trace to LoJack atvs.
We are hunting Unit 45 in second archery with elk and deer tags. One of our guys wants to purchase an OTC bear tag. We have seen bear in the area in the last several years and there seems to be a fair amount of sign as of Memorial Day weekend. Any guidance as to tactics and strategy?
Does anyone have any experience with the Sig BDX line of rangefinders and scopes. Im in the market for a rangefinder this year and I was interested by the interconnectivity of the scope and rangefinder.
Thanks in advance.
